Wind storms in Muskoka can take a toll on any healthy or decaying tree. I was inspired to do this piece because the wind had torn off a large limb on this maple. Decay in a large tree like this does not reveal itself until a bad wind storm happens. Pen & Ink was used to show the various textures of the bark and heavy ink work helping to show depth/shadows of the cavity. Ink Intense Watercolour pencils were used to show various colours of the damaged wood and representing more depth. To ground the tree, I used various colours to show the leaves and stippling with colour used to show the sandy soil.
